Abby Newcomer

Managing Director

Abby Newcomer is a Managing Director at ViaNova, based in the Boston area. She specializes in donor collaboration, philanthropic strategy, and grantmaking, and frequently brings community members with a range of perspectives and lived experiences together to find common ground and advance important work together.

While her work spans a range of issues, Abby is passionate about advancing educational opportunities and supporting civic engagement and democracy protection. She is currently partnering with a new client to launch a large-scale philanthropic initiative focused on enhancing clinical care for children experiencing a set of rare and severe genetic conditions.

Abby brings to ViaNova expertise in economic mobility and human services policy. Previously, she worked for CLASP, where she advocated for better economic conditions for families and workers, and managed a multi-funder effort to support non-traditional college students to finance their education.

Abby graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in sociology from Bates College. She holds an MPP from the University of Michigan and a graduate certificate in women in politics from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She lives with her husband and two energetic kids, and enjoys cooking, exploring cities by foot, and spending time outdoors skiing, running, and hiking.
